In memory of LHF Founder "Huey John Wilson"
Mr. Wilson passed away this weekend. Funeral arrangements are with Rabenhorst East (Florida Blvd.) Visitation is Monday Feb 11, 2008 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Rabenhorst and Tuesday, Feb 12, 2008, 9:00-11:00 AM at Sherwood Baptist Church. Funeral Service is at 11:00 AM at Sherwood Baptist Church. Mr. Wilson will be laid to rest at Rest Haven Gardens of Memory. Mr. Wilson and Libby Fisackerly co-founded the Louisiana Hemophilia Foundation. He was a wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather, friend and a great humanitarian. We will miss Mr. Wilson greatly!

When you think of the Louisiana Hemophilia Foundation being in existence for 30 years you have to realize that it would not be here at all if it were not for a small group of dedicated volunteers who had a vision and a dream to support the bleeding disorder community. Co-founders Huey Wilson and Libby Fisackerly, and many others, have demonstrated 30 years of selfless giving and leadership that made this organization what it is today. LHF is a place that supports the needs of people with bleeding disorders, a place where the people you meet become part of your family.

Mr. Wilson was born to a large family, one of twenty three children. His parents owned a farm in Norco, LA where each of the children worked after school to do their part while their father worked at Shell Oil Comany. At the age of 18 Huey joined the Army Air Corps but always had a desire to work in the Jewelry trade. After many years of building his knowledge and jewelry craftsman skills Huey started his own jewelry store, Wilson’s Fine Jewelers. His support to the Louisiana Hemophilia Foundation began 30 years ago and continues today.

No matter what his exact job at the time he has cheerfully supported our cause in every way possible. In fact, he and his wife Angelina, are the benefactors of our scholarship program. They believe that everyone, and especially those with  bleeding disorders, should have access to higher education in order to improve their quality of life. The Huey and Angelina Wilson Scholarship program allows LHF to award $30,000 a year in scholarship funding, $1000 per semester per student, to students that attend a four year college in Louisiana and are TOPS qualified. This funding can be used to cover any type of college expense.

Libby Fisackerly is very involved with the organization and rarely misses a board meeting. She’s known by other board members as the LHF Historian because of her 30 plus years of experience. She has spent much time developing the chapter by-laws, policies and operating procedures for the foundation. Additionally, Libby also spent many years working with the National Hemophilia Foundation to assist newly formed chapters in setting up bylaws, policies, procedures, and in training staff. Whenever an issue arises that requires an answer from someone with much experience we call Libby. Of course, Libby receives an enormous amount of support from her husband, Robert, and children and grandchildren and they are very much a part of the LHF family as well.
